Oscar Siegel was drafted into the U.S. Army in April of 1945 due to World War II. He was discharged in October due to the death of his brother, Bernard Siegel, who was killed by a sniper in Okinawa in June of that year. For most of the time, Oscar was in basic training. Even though Oscar was not enlisted for very long, he had great pride and love for his country and his Jewish heritage.
