Theodore's parents came from Russia in late 1900s and lived on the lower east side of New York, He graduated from Stuyvesant high School in 1933. Following that he joined the CCC camp in Vermont for one year. When WWII started, he served in the US Army Air Forces. He was sent to Eastern Oklahoma A&M College in Wilberton, Oklahoma for training in administration and organization.

During the war, he served at Granada Army Air Force Base in Granada, Mississippi. He handled the entire PX operation and its adjunct services, band, theater, library, programming activities for servicemen entertainment. His work was so valued by his commanding officer that his military service was at this large base. He was a staff sergeant when he was release from service at the end of the war, after four years of military service.

During his business career, he was merchandising manager of a large chain of 40 stores. He entered the brokerage business with Schwerkart & Co. in Brooklyn which later became Janney Montgomery Scott. In 1981, he relocated to Sarasota, Florida where he worked at Dean Witter Reynolds that later became Morgan Stanley.
